ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Veronica Wood Blair was born in San Miguel, El Salvador, where she spent her early childhood on her grandparents’ rural farm after losing both parents before she was four. She grew up  without electricity or running water, yet was surrounded by love and discovery as she learned to work on the family farm.

Veronica was suddenly taken from her grandparents and sent to the United States at age thirteen. She spent her teenage years navigating the foster care system, separated from those she loved while enduring trauma and abuse. The seeds of love, service, and resilience instilled in her by her grandparents in childhood gave her the courage to survive and find the faith that would  ultimately rescue her.

As a young adult, Veronica served a full-time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Fresno, California. She returned home to marry Brandon Wood, whose family founded Country Mercantile in Pasco, Washington. Together, they raised four sons and built a life rooted in family, faith, and community.

In 2021, tragedy struck when Brandon unexpectedly died from COVID-19. The Tri-Cities community showed Veronica exceptional love and support, helping her and her sons cope with their loss. Veronica is now a U.S. citizen living in Texas with her new husband, Richard, who encouraged her to share her story.

Drawing from real childhood experiences, Mango Market Adventure is the first book in a series aimed at helping parents,  educators, and especially grandparents teach children the values of hard work, family, and unconditional love that will  sustain them through life’s challenges. She encourages everyone to put aside devices and read with their young children daily.
